Paintball Minigun mark III

In progress....

This sneak peak is for all of you out there who had confidence in my ability to pull it off,

and to those of you who said it couldn't be done...

Just push the play button to view a test shoot with 500 balls at plexiglass. Roughly 25-30 per second in this video.

Just got 40/sec on video. More to come. Attempting to fire 50/sec. Originally, I was hoping for 100/sec like the real Miniguns but after seeing

30-40/sec it seemed a little ridiculous. 50 per second is just an incredible amount of paint flying through the air. Even with my mini-scuba tank

and alot of spare paint, you'd run out way too fast. At 50/sec you'll be out fast, too but I think it's a good rate of fire for a quick sweep of a field.

The feed mechanism doesn't seem to want to chop balls at all. I'm surprised, but happy. I'm pretty sure it would work at higher feed speeds as well.

These shots were made with a high speed video camera set at 1200 frames per second. I shot around 100 balls at the camera and tried to get them as close as possible. On the right is the view you really don't want to have of the minigun during a game...

From the camera's frame rate(1200) and the video playback rate(30) you can calculate how many balls per second the gun is firing.

Every 40 seconds of these videos represent 1 second of recording. When you see one full revolution takes 5 seconds to watch here, it only took 1/40th of that in realtime

when I was recording. This equals 1/8 second per revolution OR 8 revolutions per second. During each revolution you hope it fires all 6 barrels once each.

This gives me 6x8 = 48 shots per second. Not too bad. I have to go buy some more paint.

Currently working on a production schedule and pricing.
